The Foundation series is one of the most influential science fiction series of all time. Written by Isaac Asimov, The first novel titled Foundation was published in 1951. Foundation was originally published as 4 short stories the 5th story which became the first segment of book 1 was published later. Asimov wanted to write a short story about a slowly declining galactic empire, based on the fall of Rome. This idea grew into story depicting the fall of the first galactic empire and the rise of the second.
